Frequently asked questions

Answers to the things people ask us most. If yours isn't here, just get in touch.

General

What makes PurrNest different from other pet hotels?

There are no cages here: every guest has a private room of their own. Cats and dogs stay in completely separate wings and never come into contact. Guests are supervised around the clock, and our in-house vet carries out regular check-ups. We collect from and return to your door, run Ercan Airport transfers and send you photos and videos every day. In short, we give your pet a calm, predictable routine.

How do I book, and how do I find out the price?

Just fill in the booking form or message us on WhatsApp. Tell us your dates, your pet's species and size, which room you'd like and whether you need a transfer, and we'll send you a personalised quote the same day. The price depends on the length of stay, the number of pets, the room type, any extra services and your transfer zone. Your booking is confirmed once you accept the quote.

Which currencies can I pay in?

Our prices are set in pounds sterling, and you can pay in Turkish lira, sterling or euros. The exchange rate and payment options are spelled out in your quote, so there are no surprises.

Can I look around before booking, or visit during the stay?

Of course. Before the stay you're welcome to come by appointment, see the rooms and meet our team and our vet. Visits during the stay we plan with care: a short visit delights some pets but restarts separation stress for others. That's why we often suggest a video call instead, and decide on a visit together with you, depending on how your pet is settling in.

What if I need to cancel or change my dates?

We know plans change. If yours do, please let us know as early as possible and we'll do our best to move your dates. The cancellation and change terms are set out in writing in the quote you accept.

Health & Vaccinations

Which vaccinations does my cat need?

For cats we ask for the combination vaccine (FVRCP) and a rabies vaccination given at least 21 days before check-in and within the last 12 months. We also need internal and external parasite treatment within about four weeks before arrival, and we recommend the FeLV (feline leukaemia) vaccine. Just bring the vaccination card or pet passport at check-in.

Which vaccinations and documents does my dog need?

For dogs we ask for the DHPPi+L combination vaccine, a rabies vaccination and recent internal and external parasite treatment, and we recommend the kennel cough vaccine. As dogs in North Cyprus must be microchipped and registered with the local municipality, we also ask for the microchip number and registration details. Just bring the vaccination card at check-in.

My pet takes regular medication or insulin. Can you manage that?

Yes. We give tablets, drops and injections, including insulin, following your vet's written plan and under the oversight of our own vet. Please bring enough medication in its original packaging, with a note of doses and times. We log every dose and let you know straight away if we notice any change.

Do you take senior pets or pets on a special diet?

Absolutely. For older guests we plan a quieter room, softer bedding and more frequent checks. Just bring their special or prescription food and we'll keep to the same meal times and portions as at home. Our vet keeps a close eye on their general condition throughout the stay.

What happens if my pet falls ill during the stay?

Our in-house vet examines them straight away and gives any first treatment needed, and we call you at the same time to explain what's happening. Wherever possible we make treatment decisions together with you, so please leave us a phone number where we can always reach you, plus a back-up contact, at check-in.

Your Pet's Stay

Will my cat hear or smell the dogs?

No. Our cat and dog wings are completely separate: guests never see each other, there's no contact, and the wings are kept apart for scent and sound too. For cats that find the smell of dogs and the sound of barking stressful, this separation is one of the most important parts of their stay.

What exactly does cage-free mean?

Your pet doesn't stay in a cage or a shared pen but in a private room of their own, with a door that closes. The room has a bed, water and food bowls and, for cats, places to climb and hide. Having their own space makes settling into a new place much easier, and daily play and walks are planned around each animal's personality.

How will my pet settle in?

We don't rush the first day. Your pet explores their room at their own pace while we get to know them with a calm voice and short visits. A blanket or toy from home helps a great deal, because it smells familiar. Tell us about their habits, likes and fears and we'll keep their routine close to the one at home. At the end of the first day we'll send photos and a video so you can see how they're settling.

What should I bring?

Your pet's vaccination card or passport, their usual food, any medication (in its original packaging, with dosage notes) and a familiar blanket or toy from home. For dogs, please bring a lead or harness too. We provide bowls, bedding and, for cats, litter.

I have two pets from the same home. Can they share a room?

Yes — if you'd like, pets from the same household can stay together, which is usually calmer for animals used to living side by side. For that we recommend our larger rooms: the Cat Loft for cats and the Dog Garden Suite for dogs. If you'd rather they had separate rooms, each gets their own. Cats and dogs always stay in their own wings, even when they share a home.

Can I see my pet while I'm away?

Every day we send you photos and short videos, so you can see for yourself how your pet is eating, playing and resting. If you'd like to see them live, we can arrange a video call at a time when they're relaxed. Updates come via WhatsApp or whichever channel you prefer.

Do I need to bring my pet's own food?

Yes, we recommend bringing the food your pet is used to. Sudden changes of diet can upset the stomach, especially at a time of change. Just write down meal times and portions and we'll stick to their routine. For long stays, we'll agree in advance how to keep the supply going.

Who looks after my pet at night?

Our supervision runs day and night. After the evening round, our team keeps checking on guests at regular intervals, so any restlessness or health concern is spotted and dealt with straight away, with our vet stepping in whenever needed.

Transfers & Travel

Which areas do you cover for home pick-up and drop-off?

As well as Kyrenia centre and Dikmen, we collect from and return to homes in Alsancak, Lapta, Çatalköy, Esentepe, Nicosia (Lefkoşa) and Gönyeli. If you live elsewhere, just ask. The transfer cost depends on the zone and is shown separately in your quote. Your pet travels in a secure carrier, with calm, careful driving.

Do you offer Ercan Airport transfers?

Yes. Send us your flight details and we'll be at the airport for your landing time, then take your pet straight to your home or to our hotel. We can also bring your pet to Ercan in good time for a departing flight. Entry requirements for North Cyprus can change, so please confirm the current rules with the KKTC Veterinary Department, and feel free to ask us too.

I'm flying from Larnaca. Can my pet come south with me?

No, pets can't cross the Green Line at the crossing points. That's why owners flying from Larnaca need somewhere safe for their pet in the north while they're away, and that's exactly what we're here for. We can collect your pet from home the day before your flight and bring them back to your door when you return. Rules can change, so please confirm the current position with the authorities.

I spend the winter abroad. Can my pet stay for a long time?

Yes. For stays of several weeks or even months we have a dedicated set-up: a room of their own, a settled daily routine, regular vet check-ups, daily photos and videos, and video calls whenever you like. Long stays also come with a discount. Please make sure vaccinations, especially rabies, remain valid for the whole stay, and leave enough medication and food.
